Access Community Therapists was founded to help people of all abilities live safe, healthy, rewarding lives in their own homes and communities.

Over the past 29 years, our company has grown, our team has flourished and our services have expanded and diversified but our original commitment - to provide excellent community-based clinical services - has not wavered.

Our ongoing commitment to best practice and clinical excellence means that we strongly support ongoing professional development for our team and have also developed continuing education workshops for practicing clinicians and students throughout British Columbia.

Our Story

Access was founded in 1990 by Krista Carwana, BSR OT and Jo-Anne Chisholm, MSc. OT. The company was established in response to the need to provide comprehensive OT and PT services to adults with developmental disabilities who were moving into the community from facility based care. Krista and Jo-Anne worked closely with teams of other health professionals to create accessible and safe group homes for clients with complex medical needs across the Province of British Columbia. Over the years, the Access team has grown and has widened its scope to provide a range of therapy services to people of all age groups and needs.

As a result of their work, Krista and Jo-Anne were jointly awarded the BCSOT Outstanding Occupational Therapist of the Year Award in 2002. This award is presented to OT's in British Columbia who have made an outstanding contribution to their profession through their career. They continue to share in the management and direction of the company.
