Spinal Cord Injury Services
Spinal cord injury (SCI) involves damage to the spinal cord that results in partial or total loss of motor and sensory function below the injured level. Paraplegia is the loss of function to the lower body and quadriplegia refers to the loss of function in upper and lower body. These types of injuries can occur as a result of a traumatic event or disease.
The Access team has extensive experience and knowledge assisting people with spinal cord injury to live healthy lives in community. Occupational therapists, Physiotherapists and Registered Nurses (WOCN) provide services to clients with spinal cord injury across the Province of British Columbia including:
  • Manual wheelchair seating and mobility
  • Specialized power wheelchair bases, access methods and integrated environmental controls
  • Custom molded and fabricated seating and positioning equipment
  • Alternate positioning equipment (standers, beds, commodes, stretcher systems, seating other than wheelchair)
  • Pressure management including education, pressure mapping, woundcare, pressure relief equipment prescription
  • Physiotherapy for activation and pain management
  • Bowel and bladder management (WOCN service)
  • Accessibility design and home modifications and adaptation
  • ADL equipment prescription and design
  • Assistive Technology assessment and prescription
